Wind Tunnel Facility

In recent years, the introduction of new design and construction technologies, and the new developments in high-strength materials have lead to bridges and other large scale constructions with increased sizes and lower weights. Generally speaking, these large constructions have high levels of flexibility and long oscillation periods; consequently, further study is required into their wind stability, and particularly into the corresponding dynamic characteristics. While vigorous efforts are being made in research and development regarding wind stability, the role of the wind-tunnel is becoming evermore crucial. Accordingly, Komai Tekko Inc. has installed this wind-tunnel equipment in order to allow wind stability to be tested in a variety of different ways.

Features

  1. The width across the measurement section can be varied to enable both 2D testing and 3D testing, thus allowing the wind stability of constructions to be investigated from a wide range of directions.

    Size of measurement cross-section
    1.5 m (w) x 2 m (h): For 2D testing
    4 m (w) x 2 m (h): For 3D testing

  2. Featuring a long measurement channel (20-m), this equipment allows natural wind to be simulated through the creation of boundary-layer turbulent flow. Accordingly, the behavioral characteristics of large constructions can be investigated in three dimensions using wind which approximates that in the area of the construction site.

  3. A range of highly-accurate measurement devices and dedicated programs have been introduced to ensure that measurement and analysis can guarantee fast and accurate testing.
